You do not need to remove sewn-in hair extensions or weaves to visit a correctional facility. Permanently attached hair additions are not something facilities require visitors to remove before entry.

What you should be aware of is that corrections officers conducting entry searches have the authority to inspect hair thoroughly, including running their hands through extensions or along the scalp, if they have reason to believe contraband could be concealed. This is not routine for every visitor, but it is within their authority and does occasionally happen, particularly at higher security facilities or when something triggers additional scrutiny during the screening process.

Clip-in extensions or removable hairpieces may be treated differently. A hairpiece that can be easily removed and reattached is more likely to be inspected closely or temporarily removed during the search process than something that is permanently sewn in.

The best approach going in is to wear your hair in a way that makes the search process straightforward. Simple styles with no added items like decorative pins, large clips, or thick accessories tend to move through security screening most smoothly. If you have any specific concerns about your hairstyle and the facility's search policies, calling ahead and asking is always worth doing.
