Yes, inmates can write back, and the way the addressing works is one of the features people appreciate most about the service.

When InmateAid sends a letter to your inmate, the return address printed on the envelope is InmateAid's address in Florida. Your personal home address does not appear anywhere on the outside of the envelope. Your inmate sees your name as you registered it on the account, and whatever you choose to share within the body of the letter itself is entirely up to you. If you want to keep your location private, simply do not include your address in what you write and it stays private.

When your inmate wants to write back, they address their reply to the InmateAid return address they see on your envelope. That letter comes to InmateAid, gets scanned, and is uploaded directly to your account dashboard. You receive an email notification letting you know a letter is waiting, and you unlock it for $1.59 to read it.

The whole system is built around two things that matter to a lot of people in this situation. The first is privacy. Your personal address never enters the facility's mail system, which means it is not on file with the prison or jail and is not accessible to anyone inside. The second is convenience and quality. The letters go out on proper paper stock, not flimsy reproductions, and the incoming letters get digitally delivered directly to your account rather than requiring you to manage a paper correspondence from your end.

If you have questions about setting up the incoming letter service or accessing a letter already in your dashboard, reach out to aid@inmateaid.com.
