Sending a letter through InmateAid is designed to be as simple as possible so you can stay connected with your loved one from your phone or computer without needing to print anything, buy stamps, or go to the post office.

Here is how it works from start to finish.

You purchase a letter package through InmateAid. Letters are currently available in packages of 8 for $8. Your letters do not expire so you can use them at your own pace over time.

When you are ready to send a letter you log into your InmateAid account, select your inmate, and compose your letter using the online editor. You can write your message, add photos, and personalize it however you like within the facility's content guidelines.

Once you submit your letter InmateAid handles everything else. Your letter is printed on quality materials, placed in an InmateAid branded envelope, and mailed directly to your inmate's facility via USPS. The InmateAid logo on the envelope is recognized by facility mailroom staff who know from experience that the contents are legitimate, which helps your mail move through the mailroom process smoothly.

Your inmate typically receives the letter within 2 to 3 business days of you sending it. Once it arrives at the facility it goes through the standard mailroom review process before being delivered to their housing unit.

All mail is opened and read by facility staff before reaching your inmate. Keep your letters focused on personal connection, encouragement, and family updates. Avoid any reference to ongoing legal matters or court proceedings.

If your inmate wants to write back they can do so through InmateAid's return letter service. They write a physical letter and send it to InmateAid's processing address. Once received it is scanned and delivered to you as a PDF through your account for $1.89 per two pages.
