Many courts also have online case search portals where you can pull this information yourself without making a call.
If a public defender was appointed rather than a private attorney hired, the public defender's office for that jurisdiction can confirm whether they have an attorney assigned to the case, though they may not be able to share case details with you directly.
Once you have the attorney's name and contact information, reaching out is straightforward. Call or email the attorney's office, identify yourself and your relationship to the defendant, and ask whether you can be kept informed about the case. Attorneys are not obligated to share privileged case details with family members without the client's consent, but many will at least confirm their representation and give you a general sense of where things stand.
If she is not calling at all and you are genuinely worried about her wellbeing rather than just the legal situation, calling the facility directly and asking to speak with a counselor or case manager is worth trying. Express concern for her welfare and ask whether she is okay. That is a different conversation than asking about her case and sometimes yields more.
