How Do I Locate Someone Recently Arrested in Honolulu?

My family member was arrested in Honolulu and no local facility will confirm they have him ten hours later. Where do I search?

Ten hours is still early enough that booking may not be complete across all databases. When someone is first arrested, it can take several hours for their information to propagate through the various systems that jails and public databases pull from. Coming up empty early on does not necessarily mean something unusual is happening.

The best online resource to start with is VINELink at vinelink.com. It is a nationwide victim and offender notification system that pulls custody data from participating facilities and allows you to search by name and state. Hawaii is a participating state, and it gives you a real-time look at custody status across multiple facilities simultaneously rather than calling each one individually.

Beyond VINELink, try the Hawaii Department of Public Safety's online inmate search, which covers state facilities. If you believe the arrest was made by federal authorities rather than local or state police, the situation is different and you would need to check with the US Marshals Service or the Bureau of Prisons depending on the charge.

If several more hours pass and you still cannot locate him through any of those channels, calling the Honolulu Police Department non-emergency line directly and asking about recent bookings by name is another option. They can sometimes tell you where a person was taken even if the receiving facility has not yet updated their public roster.
