After setting up your InmateAid phone account, the new local number gets sent directly to your email. Check your inbox, and your spam folder if it does not appear right away, for the notification containing the assigned number. That number is operational immediately once it arrives.
A simple way to confirm everything is working correctly is to dial the new number from a different phone, a friend's cell or a landline, and listen for it ringing through to your current phone. The caller ID on your phone should display the new InmateAid number, which confirms the forwarding is set up and active.
Once you have verified the number is working, getting it to your fiancé is the next step. He needs to know which number to dial from the facility's phone system in order for the discount rate to apply. InmateAid makes that notification easy. Email aid@inmateaid.com and ask for a coupon to send a letter at no charge. That letter goes out through InmateAid's standard mail process and reaches your fiancé within about a week with the new number written clearly inside.
Until he has that number and has added it to his approved call list at the facility, the discount does not kick in. Getting the notification letter out as quickly as possible closes that gap and puts the savings into effect from his very next call.
The whole process from account setup to first discounted call typically takes about a week once the letter is in transit.
