Once your account is set up and the number is active, the next step is simply getting that number into his hands, because he cannot use it until he knows what to dial.
There are two straightforward ways to do that. The first is through InmateAid's letter service. You can send him a letter directly through the platform with the new number included, and it will arrive through regular mail within a few days. The second option is to mail it yourself the old fashioned way, write it down, put it in an envelope, and send it to the facility.
Either way, once he has the number he will need to add it to his approved call list at the facility before he can dial it. That process varies by facility but typically involves submitting the number through the phone carrier's system, either through a kiosk, a form submitted to staff, or through the carrier's inmate portal if one is available. Some facilities process new numbers quickly and others take a few days, so factor that in.
Once the number is approved and on his list, he dials it just like any other number on his account and the call comes through to you at the lower rate. If you are not sure whether the number is active and ready on InmateAid's end before you send it to him, you can reach out to aid@inmateaid.com to confirm the account status before you pass the number along.
