When charges are reduced and there is no longer a legal basis to hold someone, release should happen relatively quickly, often within hours to a couple of days, depending on the facility's processing workload.
If your husband has not been released yet after his charges were reduced, there is almost certainly another reason for the delay. A few possibilities worth checking on.
Outstanding holds or detainers from another jurisdiction will prevent release even when the current case is resolved. If there is a warrant from another county or state in the system, the facility cannot release him until that matter is addressed or the issuing jurisdiction decides not to pursue it.
Paperwork processing takes time, particularly when a large number of inmates are being released at the same time. A facility processing over 100 releases simultaneously may have administrative backlogs that slow individual processing down.
Unpaid fines, fees, or restitution sometimes create release holds at the county level even after charges are resolved.
The fastest way to get a clear answer is to call the facility and ask to speak with the release office or a case manager. Ask specifically whether anything is outstanding that is preventing the release and what needs to happen for it to proceed. If a detainer from another jurisdiction is the issue, that is a legal matter worth getting an attorney involved in immediately.
