Finding an inmate's release date depends on which system they are in.

For federal inmates the Bureau of Prisons publishes projected release dates in their free online locator at bop.gov/inmateloc. Search by name or inmate ID number. The date shown reflects good time credits already applied and is updated as the sentence progresses.

For state inmates each state Department of Corrections maintains its own inmate search tool. Most include projected release dates or parole eligibility dates in the results. InmateAid's facility directory covers all 50 states and links directly to each state's official search tool so you can find the right resource quickly.

For county jail inmates release dates are typically shorter and fixed. Call the facility directly and ask for the booking department. Most counties also maintain online inmate rosters that include release dates.

A few things worth knowing. Release dates can change in either direction. Good behavior and program participation can move a date earlier. Disciplinary incidents can push it back. If a date you previously saw has changed that is the most likely explanation.

If you cannot locate your inmate through official databases InmateAid's free inmate search is a good additional resource that covers facilities nationwide.
