In the Nevada Department of Corrections system, shoes and clothing cannot be sent directly from individuals or standard retailers like Amazon. Outside packages from unapproved sources will be refused at the mail room. Everything has to go through an approved vendor.
Use an approved package vendor. NDOC authorizes specific vendors for their Clothing Package Program. The three primary options are:
Access Securepak through the Keefe Group, which is the official vendor for sending pre-approved gift packages to Nevada inmates. You can search for your family member by name or inmate ID on their website.
Walkenhorst's, a long-standing correctional package vendor that services Nevada facilities.
Mike's Better Shoes, an approved prison vendor for NDOC. They do not offer online ordering but you can print an order form and mail or fax it in.
Know the footwear rules before ordering. NDOC has specific limits on what inmates can have. Generally, inmates are limited to two pairs of athletic shoes, one pair of black dress shoes, and one pair of boots, slippers, or sandals. Shoes are often required to be solid white or have minimal branding. There is typically a value cap, with shoes needing to come in under $100. Some facilities also require the inmate to submit an I-60 form to the property room for approval before a package can be received. Check with the specific facility before ordering.
Alternative: Put money on his books. Rather than sending a package, you can deposit funds directly into your son's trust or commissary account and let him purchase footwear through the institutional canteen. Western Union accepts deposits online, through their app, or at physical locations like Walmart. You can also mail a money order or cashier's check with the required deposit coupon to the NDOC bank lockbox.
