My boyfriend is in Amador county for violation probation. His two daughter are taken by CPS. I received his mail from dept. Of social services. He has bunch of important forms that he needs to fill out regarding Indian Heritage, medication form, statement about medicine prescribed, physician's request to continue medication and an info of a new medication that he needs approve or not approve for his daughter to continue. He also needs to fill out the forms for court to know his reason. I need to know if they can give me an extra time to visit him so i can help him fill out the all forms cause these are all needs to be turn on his court date? I also need to know how to handle it?
You are dealing with something time sensitive, and there are a few ways to handle this without relying only on a visit.
1. Do not wait on visitation alone
Even if you request a special visit, it may not be approved in time. The fastest path is to get the paperwork to him immediately and let the facility process it.
You can:
- Mail the forms to him right away
- Use InmateAid to send them faster with clear instructions
Include:
- A simple note explaining each form
- Deadlines and court date
- Your contact information
2. Ask for a “special visit” anyway
Call the facility and ask to speak with:
- Counselor or case manager
- Visiting officer
Explain:
- There are CPS court documents with deadlines
- You need to assist him completing them
They may allow:
- A special or extended visit
- A legal or document related visit
No guarantees, but situations involving children and court deadlines sometimes get consideration.
3. Contact the social worker directly
This is very important. Call the Department of Social Services caseworker listed on the paperwork and explain:
- He is incarcerated
- You are trying to help him complete forms
- There may be delays due to mail and access
Ask if:
- They can extend the deadline
- They can accept partial or delayed submission
- They can communicate directly with him at the facility
4. Use facility staff to help him
He can request help from:
- His counselor
- The prison law library or case manager
They can assist with forms and may help ensure they are returned on time.
5. Fax or email if allowed
Some facilities or social services offices will accept:
- Faxed forms
- Scanned documents
Ask both the facility and the caseworker if this is an option. It is often faster than mail.
Bottom line
Request a special visit, but do not rely on it. Get the forms to him immediately, contact the social worker about deadlines, and use the facility’s internal staff to help him complete everything on time.
