You will have to call the facility. In most cases, you will have to fill out and application and send it in for approval. That process runs your name through the NCIC database. If you are a felon they will deny your visitation. However, there are situations where you can just show up and they'll let you visit but since there are so many wide ranging rules and restrictions that making the trip there without knowing might make it a wasted trip.
