Not really. Most of the jailhouse violence you hear about is remote and isolated. It is not the norm. There are things of course that will change that quickly. If your son keeps to himself and internalizes his thoughts and actions he'll get out without as much as an argument.
Subject: Send books and magazines
There are many publishers and they all have a slightly different response to this question. The rule of thumb is it takes about 8-10 weeks for the first issue to deliver. If you ordered from a subscription card inserted in a store magazine, the paragraph about delivery also suggests it "could take 8-10 weeks for the first magazine to arrive." The facilities will only allow magazines sent directly from the publisher. Our partners are honest and responsible.

No. Inmates do not know the other inmates charges unless they speak about them. Our strong advice is to keep your crime to your self as well as your out-date. Inmates that are trouble-makers will have their people on the outside research what they can find on certain inmates. They will use the information if the crime is something they do not "approve of".
Subject: Furloughs
Maybe, depending on his crime, his in-prison behavior, the length of time left on his sentence. Furloughs are rare but if he's been a model inmate there is a chance they escort him to the hospital bedside for a couple of hours, but they are not going to "let him out early" for this reason.

FL DOC offers transportation either with a bus ticket or some arrangement to get them to their freedom destination
Subject: Visitation
Visitation allows for babies to come along with a diaper bag that is subject to heavy inspection. Bring milk, diapers and a change of clothes but don't try and sneak something in, or you'll end up with your loved one.

Sneakers are a real commodity in prison. Commissary sells sneakers and other shoe "upgrades" like boots, etc. The charges range from $50-125. There is also a "secondary market" where inmates sell used shoes either from inmates that have upgraded theirs or when someone is released as they departing inmates oftentimes symbolically leave their shoes behind.
Subject: Visitation
Federal visitation is run very much by-the-book, and for an FCI Low facility you will have "contact" with your inmate. Upon arrival you will enter and give your ID (you will have already gone through an approval process beforehand filling out a form your inmate mailed you).
