Subject: Marriage in prison
We have answered this question a few times on Ask the Inmate, we are going to use your question to expand on our advice. Here are some realities that happen AFTER the marriage to an inmate. After you get married, you go back and sit down and have a visit. You sit at a table, you get to touch hands, and pretty much that's it. You can kiss for two minutes, maybe, if you're lucky. The ensuing years will not be a...

Subject: Law & court questions - legal terms
If her deferred sentence is accelerated, she will actually receive a felony conviction. Whether she will have to serve all or some part of the original sentence is up to the judge. Her court costs will also rise because of the motion to accelerate and the bogus check charge. She should seek counsel so that this does not get out of control. For some defendants in criminal cases, a deferred sentence is a way not only to avoid jail, but also...

Subject: Inmate phone calls
Collect calls at the least favorable way to receive an inmate call. They are $14.99 per 15-minute call. If you send us the name of the prison and your telephone number, we will give you an honest estimate of whether our [Discount Telephone Service](https://www.inmateaid.com/shop/calls) would be right for you.
Subject: Bail & bond questions
Bail is set based on the trustworthiness of the offender to report to their appointed court date, the nature of the crime, public safety from the offender and their criminal history. There is a baseline that the magistrates go by for setting a bond amount. There must be some serious charges or elements to this detention for a high bond. We can assure you it has NOTHING to do with election time, that passed a month ago.
Subject: Pending criminal charges
A bail of $1.75 million signals that prosecutors are treating this as a serious drug trafficking case, not a simple possession charge. The jump from possession to conspiracy to deliver and manufacture is a major escalation in severity, and it means the state believes she was involved in more than just being in the wrong place. That may or may not reflect reality, but it is what she is up against right now. The most urgent thing is getting a qualified...

Subject: Commissary
We are not certain. Most county jails do NOT have a program where you send in care packages - although some do. You might have to put some money on their books for them to shop at the commissary themselves. To be certain, you might try calling the facility (325-365-2110) and ask to speak with the case manager, counselor or unit team secretary to get more information.

You have to enter the inmate's name, ID number and the correct address of the facility. You have to buy "new paperback books", the used books are sold by third party affiliates and those books will get rejected. There are no other tricks to it, other than staying away from the other book sellers on the [Amazon](http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=as_sl_pc_tf_lc?node=283155&tag=inmatecom-20&camp=15329&creative=394453&linkCode=ur1&adid=1NK4T3Z8XDKYJ0S12D53&&ref-refURL=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.inmateaid.com%2Fpages%2Fdetails%2Fsend-books-to-an-inmate-in-prison-or-jail) site that sell used books.
Subject: Send inmate money
They want you to use [Western Union](https://www.westernunion.com/us/en/send-to-inmate.html?src=aff_cj_mt_Inmate+Aid%252C+LLC_6191743_SENDMONEYPAGETEXT) have money on their books immediately so that they may use the money to shop at the commissary or to buy phone time.
Subject: Sentencing questions
Same as other jails. Inmates must do 85% of their sentence unless the jail over-crowding becomes so massive they let the low level, non-violent offenders out early.
Subject: Send books and magazines
If you purchased the magazine subscriptions through InmateAid, this is straightforward. Just email InmateAid the new facility name and address and the team will contact the publisher directly to update the delivery address. Your inmate will not miss an issue in the process. If the subscriptions were purchased elsewhere, you will need to contact each publisher directly and provide the updated facility address along with your inmate's full name and ID number. Publishers typically allow address changes by phone or through...
