Subject: Family services
Only if the child is under 18
Subject: Send inmate mail
Not advisable. The jails and prisons are cracking down on "hand-made cards" because they have discovered the ingenious ways letter-writers are introducing drugs in the ink. The dried ink, one licked will activate the drug. The feds are onto this and will not allow "homemade cards". InmateAid has a solution, we have postcards and greeting cards that ARE allowed and will get your message across to your inmate.

Moral support cant buy snacks at the commissary. So, my choice would be the financial support (within reason) because that says a lot more than a moral support speech and by its very nature shows "moral support" at the same time.
Subject: Pending criminal charges
If you are looking for the actual criminal case against the inmate, you will have to contact someone at the Clerk of the Court in the county where they caught their charge

We are not familiar with a legal filing costing $1, maybe it's true but it doesn't seem like you would get much help for one dollar. My advice would be to investigate the process in your county. You might be able to do this pro se (represent yourself), Google the information and write up the motion yourself. That would cost less than one dollar (although there is probably a fee to file with the county).

That access is considered part of basic...

Go to the County Clerk and ask for all documents related to that person's case. You will need to know where the charges were filed to get the correct information.
Subject: General prison questions-terminology
Two days is still very early. When someone self-surrenders to a federal or state facility, there is an Admissions and Orientation period that has to be completed before the inmate's information fully propagates through the system and before communication privileges are activated. That process typically takes anywhere from a week to ten days, depending on the facility's intake volume and scheduling. The database not showing him yet is normal for this timeframe. Systems update on their own schedule and newly arrived...
