What does projected release date mean?

I have a friend in and it says that his projected release date is Jan 2018 But then it says oct does he have a good chance at parole if he has a gun charge.

He has a maximum sentence date of Oct 2018, with a projected release date of Jan 2018.

He has a maximum sentence date of Oct 2018, with a projected release date of Jan 2018. If he stays calm and does not have any incident reports, he will get out in January. Tell him to chill and just do the remaining time, "don't let the time do him"
