Tablet rollout timelines are set by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and vary by facility. The most direct way to get a current answer is to call Five Points Correctional Facility and ask to speak with the unit secretary. The number is 607-869-5111. They will have the most accurate and up to date information on where the facility stands in the tablet distribution process.

New York has been rolling out JPay tablets across its state prison system over the past several years, and most facilities have received them or are in the queue. The tablets give inmates access to music, educational content, messaging, and in some facilities limited email capabilities. Whether Five Points has already received them, is scheduled for an upcoming distribution, or is still waiting depends on where they fall in DOCCS's implementation schedule, which is something the facility staff can answer directly.

If your friend is already inside and has access to his counselor or case manager, that is another avenue worth pursuing. Staff at the unit level often have more current information about facility-specific rollouts than what gets communicated publicly.

In the meantime, letters and photos through InmateAid remain the most reliable way to stay connected while tablet access is pending. Physical mail gets through regardless of where a facility stands on the technology rollout.
