Why Do Websites Not Show a Facility Is on Lockdown?

The facility told me that it's currently on lockdown and they gave me a site to go on to confirm but when I go on the sites they all tell me that the facility is not currently on lockdown why is that and is there any other reliable sites that I can look on to see if this facility is actually on lockdown

This disconnect happens because there is no centralized public database that tracks real-time lockdown status for correctional facilities across the country. The websites you are checking are not pulling live facility data and most of them have no mechanism for doing so.

Lockdown information is managed internally by each facility and is rarely communicated through any public-facing channel in real time. A facility can be on full lockdown with every inmate confined to their cell and no outside communication allowed, while every third-party website that covers that facility shows nothing unusual because those sites simply do not have access to that information. They are not updated by the facility and they are not monitoring internal operations.

The most reliable source for lockdown status is always the facility itself, which is exactly what you already did by calling. If staff confirmed a lockdown, that information is accurate regardless of what any website says.

The good news is that a lockdown is not a crisis for individual inmates in most cases. When a facility goes on lockdown, everyone is secured in their assigned housing, which is actually one of the safer positions an inmate can be in. They are accounted for, they are not in harm's way from other inmates, and the situation is being managed by staff. Lockdowns are disruptive to communication and routine but they are designed to maintain safety rather than compromise it.

While the lockdown is in effect, sending a letter is one of the most useful things you can do. Mail continues to be processed and delivered even during lockdowns at most facilities and a letter arriving during a quiet and restricted period means more than one arriving during a normal day.
