If you are organized, consistent, and actually follow through every time you think about writing, you do not need this service. Go buy stamps and mail your own letters. Nobody here is going to tell you otherwise.
The honest reason InmateAid exists is that most people are not that person. The intention to write is there. The follow-through is not. Life gets busy, the errand gets pushed back, and the inmate on the other end keeps waiting for a letter that never comes because getting to the post office just never happens.
This service puts the tools on your phone so that when you are thinking about your loved one at 11 pm on a Tuesday, you can write the letter right then instead of adding it to a mental to-do list that never gets shorter. That moment of connection happens when it is felt rather than when it is convenient to drive somewhere.
On the cost argument, a stamp is a stamp. The postal service you use does not move any faster than the postal service by us, and the price of a stamp is fixed regardless of who buys it. There is a modest premium for the convenience, and the platform and the members who use it regularly have decided that premium is worth it to ensure their inmate actually hears from them consistently.
The photos tell the whole story. People promise their loved one pictures from the holidays and six months later still have not printed and mailed a single one. This service closes that gap between intention and action.
After sending over a million letters, we are confident this works for the people it is built for. If that is not you, the post office is always open.
