The outcome depends almost entirely on what the warrant was for and what his current immigration status is. Two years of compliant reporting is a positive factor, but it does not override an active warrant or an immigration detainer if one has been lodged against him.

If ICE has placed an immigration detainer on him, the likelihood of release back into the community in the United States is low. Detainers are typically used when immigration authorities intend to pursue removal proceedings, and being held at a detention facility while those proceedings move forward is the standard outcome. The warrant that triggered the detention is the key piece of information because it determines what legal footing ICE is acting on and what options exist to fight it.

This situation requires an immigration attorney, not general guidance. Immigration detention and removal proceedings are a specialized area of law, and the difference between a good and bad attorney in these cases can literally determine whether he stays or is deported. If he does not have one, reaching out to an immigration legal aid organization in the San Antonio area is the fastest path to getting someone in his corner who can review the actual warrant, his immigration history, and what if any relief is available to him.

Time matters in immigration cases. The sooner legal representation is involved, the more options typically remain available.
