The Erie Co Holding Center is a detention center located at 40 Delaware Ave Buffalo, NY which is operated locally by the Erie County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Erie County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Buffalo Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for New York here.

The ECHC, is a pretrial, maximum-security detention facility. It is the second-largest detention facility in New York State, outside of New York City. The ECHC has a capacity of housing 638 inmates remanded to the custody of the Sheriff of Erie County. It processes more than 20,000 inmates annually. The facility is a combination of pods and open bay construction and traditional linear type cells. Overflow inmates are housed at the Holding Center Annex at the Erie County Correctional Facility (ECCF).

The Sheriff's Office provides medical and dental services to both the ECHC and ECCF through the Erie County Sheriff's Office Correctional Health Unit. The Correctional Health Unit ensures timely and appropriate medical care for incarcerated individuals. They provide access to medical providers, nursing care, medication and urgent treatment needs.
