The Federal Correctional Institution, Petersburg Satellite Prison Camp (FCI Petersburg Minimum) is a United States federal prison for minimum-security male inmates. It is part of the Petersburg Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) in Virginia and operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the US Department of Justice.

FCC Petersburg is located in Prince George County, 25 miles southeast of Richmond, Virginia, the state capital. It lies just west of the independent city of Hopewell, VA.

Background: FCI Petersburg Satellite Camp was opened in 1978 and houses inmates in a minimum-security environment who are to be released primarily in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States. This institution is part of the Petersburg Federal Correctional Complex (FCC).

Housing: Inmates at the camp are housed in dormitories.

Health Services: Sick call, medications, medical emergencies, dental sick call, routine dental care, eyeglasses, hearing aids, physical examinations, and mandatory HIV testing are provided at the prison. Inmates must submit a triage form in order to be seen by their primary health care provider.

Psychology Services: FCI Petersburg Camp offers counseling and a variety of treatment groups including stress management, anger management, and additional groups. Treatment offerings change quarterly based upon inmate population need. The Religious Services Department also offers the Life Connections Program for inmates who desire to grow as a responsible person.

Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP): FCI Petersburg Low houses a Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), the camp does not have RDAP. It also offers the Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program (NR-DAP), a Drug Education class, Smart Recovery, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), and Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Education Services: FCI Petersburg Camp provides GED, English-as-a-Second Language (ESL), Adult Continuing Education (ACE), and parenting programs. High school diplomas and post-secondary programs are available through paid correspondence programs.

Library Services: A general library includes a variety of magazines, newspapers, reference materials, and fiction and nonfiction books necessary for meeting inmates educational, cultural, and leisure needs. An Inter-Library Loan Program is available. Inmates are able to prepare legal documents and have reasonable access to legal materials via the TRULINCS Electronic Law Library. Additionally, the law library contains required legal publications, general legal reference materials, and a selection of Bureau of Prisons policies. Typewriters and a copy machine are also available for inmate use.

Commissary: Inmates may use funds in their account to purchase items at the institution commissary, place funds on their inmate phone account, purchase TRU-Units for their TRULINCS account, and send funds in another manner. Inmates must have their commissary card in their possession at all times for identification purposes. Inmates can purchase a variety of items in the commissary, including beverages, food, snacks, clothing, and electronics.

Recreation: Recreation facilities at FCI Petersburg Camp include an outdoor weightlifting pavilion, athletic fields, a handball & racquetball court, a bocce ball court, and a walking track area. The recreation program offers both structured and leisure time activities as well as organized intramural leagues throughout the calendar year to include soccer, volleyball, softball, basketball, and flag football. All intramural teams are organized by housing units. Additional programs include an Institutional Movie Program, an Inmate Photo Program, a Band & Music Program, activities on recognized federal holidays, and various other programs. The hobby craft programs include drawing, painting, leathercraft kits, crochet, and cross stitch.

Familiarizing yourself with this information and knowing your responsibilities will help you to adjustment to institution life.

Commissary List - In 1930 the Department of Justice authorized and established a Commissary at each Federal institution. The Commissary provides a bank type account for your money & for the procurement of articles not issued regularly as part of the institution administration. Funds deposited by your family, friends, or other sources are stored in your commissary account that we maintain.

Covid Visitation Information

We remind all visitors to carefully review our special visiting procedures during the COVID pandemic, and also remind all visitors to observe applicable state and local COVID travel restrictions in planning your visit to the institution.

Please call 804-733-7881 prior to your visit to get the latest updates, time changes or visitation cancellations.

All visitors will be temperature checked with results annotated at the screening site prior to entrance. All staff working the screening site will be in proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Visitors will be in-processed on a first come first serve basis, adhering to social-distancing requirements. If distancing requirements cannot be met, visitors may be asked to wait outside for systematic in-processing to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Inmates on quarantine or isolation status will not be permitted visits - it will be the visitor's responsibility to check with the institution prior to arrival to ensure the scheduled visit can still take place.

The visiting room is designed to maximize social distancing, with a minimum of six feet between persons. Inmates are permitted two visitors per visit. To ensure equal opportunities, the frequency of visits determines any termination. Appropriate face coverings are mandatory for all inmates and visitors, all visitors wearing a mask will be provided one by the institution, theirs will be secured in the lockers in the lobby. No physical contact, photographs, food, or drink is permitted. A hand hygiene station, including alcohol-based hand sanitizer, is available at all visiting entrances and exits. Orderlies are assigned to each visitation room and will continually sanitize all touch surfaces, restrooms, etc.
