While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.
The Bacon PDC in Alma GA, recently expanded its capacity with the opening of a new 50-bed dormitory, celebrated through a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 28, 2023. This addition brings the TC's total capacity to accommodate 100 male residents. The PDC component of the center serves as a minimum-security facility designed for confining probationers for up to 180 days. Offenders may be directed to the center either as a sentencing option or as a result of a revocation proceeding if they fail to meet their probation obligations in the community.
Currently, there are seven PDCs operational in Georgia, boasting a collective capacity of 1,836 beds. Among these centers, one is designated for housing female probationers, providing a total of 237 beds. PDCs play a crucial role in the criminal justice system by offering a sanctioning option for probationers requiring heightened security or supervision, who may not meet the criteria for enrollment in a boot camp program.
These facilities maintain a highly structured environment with regimented schedules that encompass supervised, unpaid work in nearby communities and specialized programming aimed at enhancing the probationers' success upon returning to the community. Notably, three of these facilities cater to probationers grappling with severe substance abuse issues. Among them, two facilities are dedicated to male offenders, collectively offering 592 beds, while the remaining facility is tailored for female offenders and provides 198 beds.
The substance abuse treatment program offered at these specialized facilities adopts an advanced cognitive-behavioral approach, complemented by a comprehensive mental health component. This holistic treatment model aims to address the underlying issues contributing to the probationers' substance abuse problems, thereby facilitating their rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society upon completion of their sentences.
