Hays State Prison, established in 1990, is a close security facility tasked with managing some of Georgia's most challenging offenders. With a capacity of 1,101 inmates, it aims to minimize recidivism through structured programs and effective re-entry initiatives. The prison includes a Faith & Character based dormitory and hosts the Paulding Residential Substance Abuse Treatment program, functioning as a Tier I, II & STEP Down facility.

The housing at Hays State Prison consists of seven general population dormitories, one Fast Track building, six Tier II dorms, and three Tier I dorms. Additionally, there is an outside fire station and an infirmary. The facility also accommodates approximately 750 level II mental health offenders. It houses specialized units such as a C.E.R.T. Team, Tactical Squad, and a Canine Unit.

Work details at Hays primarily involve supporting internal operations such as the GCIC Optics and Aramark Food Service, utilizing offender labor.

The first step in the visitation process is to become an approved visitor. To do so, you must first fill out the Visitation Request Form and submit a completed form to the facility where your loved one is incarcerated. Please include a copy of supporting documentation (photo id, marriage license, and birth certificate) along with the application. Consent forms must be notarized before they can be processed. All visitors must apply regardless of age. They must also be mailed to the facility where the offender is currently housed (email forms will not be accepted).

Dress Code - For adults: No tank tops, no mesh or see-through clothing, t-shirts cannot be sleeveless. No chest, shoulders, or stomach exposed. A skirt may not be more than 2 inches above the knee. No stretch pants or shorts may be worn. Only children are permitted to wear shorts. No Contraband is Permitted
