Washington State Prison, constructed in 1991, boasts a capacity to accommodate 1548 offenders. Since its inception, it has served as a medium-security facility dedicated to ensuring public safety while effectively housing male offenders. In 1992, it expanded its services to include female offenders, and in 2005, it further extended its capacity to house male inmates. The prison's mission revolves around providing a safe and secure environment for general population offenders, including those of minimum and medium security levels, while also offering comprehensive programming to support rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The housing infrastructure at Washington State Prison comprises eleven general population dormitories, featuring both two and three-man cells, providing accommodation for inmates across various security levels. Additionally, there is one isolation/segregation dormitory housing 92 inmates in one and two-man cells. Furthermore, the prison includes a 200-bed Annex featuring four 50-bed open bay dormitories, expanding its capacity to cater to the inmate population. The institution also maintains a C.E.R.T. Team and a Tactical Squad to ensure security and order.

In terms of work opportunities, inmates at Washington State Prison are engaged in Correctional Industries, kitchen duties, farm work, maintenance tasks, laundry services, and various orderly details. The Annex provides additional work details, including assignments with the Department of Transportation, Central State Hospital, grounds maintenance, vehicle and general maintenance, composting, trash detail, and rear gate operations.

Program offerings at Washington State Prison are diverse and designed to address the educational, vocational, and counseling needs of its inmate population. Academic programs include literacy remedial courses, adult basic education, and General Education Diploma (GED) programs. Counseling services encompass motivation for change, family violence intervention, pre-release programs, thinking for a change, moral reconation therapy, and specialized programs like matrix relapse prevention and re-entry programs. In terms of recreation, the prison offers general recreational activities and intramural sports.

Religious activities are also a vital component of the prison's programming, with offerings such as Bible study sessions and various worship services catering to different faiths, including Jehovah Witness, Catholic Mass, Jumah, and Taleem. Additionally, support groups like Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous are available to address substance abuse issues. Vocational training and on-the-job opportunities include computer technology/customer service, custodial maintenance, food service warehouse management, library clerk, grounds maintenance, barbering, general office clerk roles, and industry-related services provided by GCI (Georgia Correctional Industries). These programs aim to equip inmates with essential skills and resources for successful reintegration into society upon release.

Visitation Information

VISITATION DAYS / HOURS:

  • DAYS: Saturdays, Sundays, and State Holidays

The first step in the visitation process is to become an approved visitor. To do so, you must first fill out the Visitation Request Form and submit a completed form to the facility where your loved one is incarcerated. Please include a copy of supporting documentation (photo id, marriage license, and birth certificate) along with the application. Consent forms must be notarized before they can be processed. All visitors must apply regardless of age. They must also be mailed to the facility where the offender is currently housed (email forms will not be accepted).

Visitation Resources

Dress Code - For adults: No tank tops, no mesh or see-through clothing, t-shirts cannot be sleeveless. No chest, shoulders, or stomach exposed. A skirt may not be more than 2 inches above the knee. No stretch pants or shorts may be worn. Only children are permitted to wear shorts. No Contraband is Permitted
