The Northern Reception and Classification Center (NRC) serves as the primary intake and processing unit for adult males across the state, accommodating 1,800 beds in 24 housing units, including the Stateville Minimum Security Unit. Admitting individuals in reception status, the NRC acts as a transitional facility until transfer to a permanent institution. Operated under the parent institution, Stateville Correctional Center, the NRC plays a crucial role in the initial reception and classification process for the state's adult male population.
NRC maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
