Located at 16830 IL-53 in Joliet, IL, Stateville Minimum carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. Stateville Minimum offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
Stateville Minimum Security Unit, operational since March 1925, currently houses approximately 192 adult male inmates. Situated adjacent to the Stateville Correctional Center and the Northern Reception and Classification Center (NRC), which accommodate 3,020 and 1,312 inmates respectively, it serves as a component of the larger correctional complex. The unit comprises a multi-purpose building facilitating recreational and educational programs, an offender dining area, and two housing units. Inmates at the minimum security unit engage in various work assignments across the complex, contributing to operational tasks. In terms of inmate programs, academic offerings include Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Education Development (GED) courses, while vocational training opportunities encompass barbering. Volunteer services encompass chaplaincy support, counseling, choir participation, and religious Bible studies. Additionally, inmates participate in community work crews, access the library, engage in life skills development, attend SMART group sessions, and partake in re-entry summits and anger management programs aimed at facilitating successful rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Video Visitation - Video visitation hours are Sunday through Saturday 4:00p to 8:00p. Visitors should log on 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
