The Jefferson Co Jail is a detention center located at 675 NW Cherry Ln Madras, OR which is operated locally by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Jefferson County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Madras Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Oregon here.

Constructed in 2000 and operational since November 2001, the Jefferson County Jail stands as a testament to safety, cleanliness, and expanded capacity, offering accommodation over six times larger than its predecessor. Since its inauguration, the inmate population has seen a steady increase, with an initial transfer of twenty-five inmates from the courthouse building to the new facility on Cherry Lane in 2001. Presently, the average daily population hovers around 70 individuals, with approximately 130 bookings by local law enforcement officers occurring each month.

Staffing the Jefferson County Jail are 12 Corrections Deputies, 2 Court Security Deputies, 4 Corporals, 1 Sergeant, 1 Jail Commander, and 2 Nurses, ensuring round-the-clock supervision with 3-4 Corrections Deputies on duty at any given time, seven days a week. With a capacity of 150 beds, the facility has yet to reach full occupancy, necessitating individuals arrested for crimes within the community to either post bail or await their court appearance while in custody.

Inmates housed within the facility are afforded opportunities for personal development through various programs, including church services, AA/NA group meetings, Mental Health classes, Breaking Barriers, and GED courses. Emphasizing rehabilitation, these initiatives aim to equip inmates with skills and resources conducive to successful reintegration into society upon release. Volunteers play a crucial role in facilitating these programs, with ongoing recruitment efforts to expand participation.

Additionally, inmates are provided access to recreational activities and reading materials daily. While television sets are available in cell blocks for general population inmates, access is limited to a few channels via antenna, reflecting a modest entertainment provision.

Respect serves as a cornerstone of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office's approach to corrections, fostering a mutually respectful relationship between staff and inmates. Open lines of communication encourage inmates to voice any concerns or issues they may encounter, promoting a supportive and conducive environment for all stakeholders involved. As custodians of the facility, the Sheriff's Office remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and care, ensuring the well-being and security of both staff and inmates alike.
