The Kankakee County Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 3050 S Justice Wy Kankakee, IL which is operated locally by the Kankakee County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Kankakee County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Kankakee Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

Our old jail facility, the Kankakee County Detention Center, was designed for 106 inmates, but in 1994 was double-bunked which increased the capacity to 220. In 2003 a work release dorm was completed and the capacity increased again to 244.
