The Mason County WA Jail is a detention center located at 411 N 4th St Shelton, WA which is operated locally by the Mason County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Mason County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Shelton Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Telephone Calls:

Inmates have access to telephones to make collect calls. They may not receive incoming calls or messages unless it is a life/death emergency. Claims of an emergency must be verified by jail staff prior to issuing the message to the inmate.

What Items are Inmates Allowed to have?

ALL items sent to the Mason County Jail WILL be screened by Jail personnel.

Monies for Commissary:

A commissary system is provided to the Inmates at the Mason County Jail. Inmates are allowed to have funds placed in their commissary account. Cash funds must be brought to jail in person to be placed in the inmate's account. Funds may be sent via the US Mail, provided, the funds are in the form of a Money Order, Guaranteed Funds Check or Cashiers Check. Cash funds will NOT be accepted via the US Mail. DO NOT send cash to an inmate via the US Mail.

Books:

Inmates are allowed to have access to printed material. The printed material must be must be paperback, purchased at a retail store and must be mailed to the jail by the retail store where the printed material was purchased. No hardbound material is allowed.

Medication Prescribed by a Physician:

Prescription medication can be dispensed to Inmates, provided: The medication must be prescribed by a physician and must be sent to the jail by the pharmacy where the prescription was filled in bubble pack form only. NO other container will be allowed.

Visitation Information

Mason County WA Sheriff's Jail - Visitation

Effective July 16th, 2018 the Mason County Jail will no longer be providing traditional, on-site, “through the glass” visitation. All visitation will be conducted via video visit. Indigent visitors may visit at no charge, on-site, through the video visitation kiosk located in the jail public lobby.

Visitation will be provided through our contract vendor Securus Technologies.

On-Site Visitation Terms and Conditions

General Rules:

Participation in video-visitation is a privilege, not a right. Both visitor and inmate are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate fashion at all times during a video visit.

MASON COUNTY JAIL reserves the right to deny, cancel or terminate a video visit prior to or during a visiting session based upon visitor or inmate misconduct.

  • Visitors are subject to warrant checks
  • Visits that knowingly violate courts orders shall not be permitted
  • Visitors shall be 18 years old.
  • Profanities, nudity and illicit gestures are prohibited (visitors & inmate must be fully clothed at all times)
  • Visitors under the influence of drugs or alcohol shall not be permitted to visit
  • No food or beverages are allowed on the premises
  • Any damage to property or other criminal actions will be prosecuted
  • Public may visit more than one inmate daily (1 at a time) (limit 2 visitors at each station)
  • Each inmate is limited to 2 on-site visits daily

MASON COUNTY JAIL also reserves the right to restrict visitor from participating in all future use of the system.

All family member/friend video visits are recorded and subject to electronic monitoring by MASON COUNTY JAIL personnel. Your use of this video visitation system constitutes consent to this recording and monitoring.

  • Visiting while driving is strictly prohibited and is illegal
  • Visitors are subject to warrant checks
  • Visits that knowingly violate court orders shall not be permitted
  • Must be 18 years old to register as a Visitor. A parent or legal guardian shall accompany minors.
  • Profanities, nudity and illicit gestures are prohibited (visitors & inmate must be fully clothed at all times)
  • Visitors under the influence of drugs or alcohol shall not be permitted to visit
  • The public is allowed unlimited daily remote visits as schedules allow
  • Each inmate is allowed unlimited daily remote visits as schedules allow

Scheduling & Availability:

All attorney visitors must schedule visits at least 1 hour in advance.

Important: If you scheduled your visit less than 24 hours in advance, please contact the MASON COUNTY JAIL at 360-427-9670 Ext. 375 and request to speak to the Supervisor on-duty, so staff can make sure your client is expecting your appointment.
