If someone you love is locked up in Mississippi, getting money into their account covers commissary - food, hygiene, phone time, writing supplies - and keeps the connection alive. Mississippi's state prison system is straightforward on deposit methods: the Mississippi Department of Corrections accepts only two - Premier.Services online and Western Union walk-in agents. These are the only authorized channels since November 30, 2016. No money orders, no personal checks, no other online platforms at MDOC state facilities.
Mississippi splits adult custody into two systems: the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) for state sentences, and county jails for pretrial detainees and shorter sentences. Mississippi has 82 counties, and county jails each set their own deposit vendors independently.
State prisons: MDOC and two channels
If your person is in an MDOC state prison facility, there are two authorized ways to send money.
Premier.Services online
Premier.Services is the official online deposit platform for MDOC state prisons. Go to premier.services, find the inmate by selecting the state, facility, and searching by inmate ID or name. To complete the deposit you will need: the state and facility where the inmate is located, the inmate's MDOC ID number, the inmate's full name, gender, and date of birth. Pay by credit or debit card. Fees apply.
Most MDOC facilities also have lobby kiosks where you can deposit in person. Premier.Services operates the kiosk system at most Mississippi state correctional facilities.
Western Union walk-in
Western Union agent locations are the second authorized method. To deposit via Western Union in person:
Use the blue Western Union QuickCollect form - not the standard money transfer form.
Fill in the following:
Code City: MDOC
State: MS
Account Number: the inmate's MDOC ID number followed immediately by their last name with no space (for example, if the MDOC number is W12345 and the last name is Williams, the account number is W12345Williams)
Attention: the inmate's first and last name
Pay with cash or debit card. Fees apply. You can also initiate a Western Union deposit by phone at 1-800-325-6000.
Note on MoneyGram: Some older resources list MoneyGram receive code 1206 for MDOC deposits. The current official MDOC send money page lists only Premier.Services and Western Union. If you are considering MoneyGram, verify with MDOC directly before sending - the official policy as of the date of this writing limits deposits to the two authorized channels above.
No money orders, no personal checks
MDOC does not accept money orders or personal checks for inmate banking deposits. Do not mail money orders to MDOC facilities or to any lockbox claiming to be for MDOC deposits. The only authorized methods are Premier.Services and Western Union as described above.
The MDOC number is required
The MDOC number (sometimes called the MDOC ID or offender number) is the identification number assigned to every MDOC inmate. Required for both Premier.Services and Western Union deposits. Find it using the MDOC Inmate Search at mdoc.ms.gov. You will also need the inmate's current facility location.
Spending limits by classification
How much an inmate can spend each week from their account depends on their custody classification. Weekly spending limits in MDOC state facilities are:
Minimum, Medium, Maximum, Close Custody, and Death Row: $100 per week.
Administrative Segregation: $50 per month, restricted to personal hygiene items and stamps only.
Deposits exceeding what the inmate is permitted to spend at a given time are held in the account until available. Funds are also subject to deductions for outstanding debt obligations.
County jails: vendor varies by county
Mississippi has 82 counties, each with its own jail operated by the county sheriff. County jails operate independently from MDOC and set their own deposit vendors. The channels that work for MDOC state prisons - Premier.Services and Western Union - may not be the right platform for a specific county jail.
Harrison County Adult Detention Center (Gulfport), at 10451 Larkin Smith Drive, accepts online deposits and offers an on-site kiosk for deposits. For deposit questions call 228-896-0606.
DeSoto County Jail (Hernando) allows lobby kiosk and online deposits. There is no limit on deposit amounts through lobby or internet methods; unit rules govern weekly spending limits.
Across Mississippi's 82 counties, jails use a range of vendors including JPay, Access Corrections, TouchPay, ConnectNetwork, and county-specific systems. The only reliable way to find the current vendor for a specific Mississippi county jail is to check that county sheriff's website or call the jail directly.
Accounts do not transfer between systems. When your person moves from a county jail to an MDOC state prison, the county jail account stays with the county vendor. You set up new deposits through Premier.Services or Western Union using the MDOC number.
Federal custody in Mississippi
If your person is in federal Bureau of Prisons custody in Mississippi - including FCI Yazoo City or other BOP facilities - deposits go through the BOP Trust Fund via Western Union, MoneyGram at retail (different from the MDOC Western Union process), or online at bop.gov. You need the eight-digit BOP register number. Do not use the MDOC Western Union QuickCollect process or Premier.Services for federal inmates.

What to know before you send anything
Only two channels work for MDOC state prisons. Premier.Services online and Western Union walk-in agents. Nothing else is authorized.
Use the blue Western Union QuickCollect form - not the standard money transfer form. Code City is MDOC, State is MS. Account number is MDOC ID + last name with no space.
Get the MDOC number and current facility first. Required for both deposit methods. Find via MDOC Inmate Search at mdoc.ms.gov.
Spending limits are classification-based. $100/week for most classifications; $50/month for administrative segregation restricted to hygiene and stamps.
County jails use their own vendors. Premier.Services and Western Union are MDOC state prison channels. Confirm separately for county jails.
