How to Send Money to an Inmate in Nebraska

How to deposit money to a Nebraska DOC or county jail inmate. GTL/ViaPath ConnectNetwork for NDCS state prisons, no JPay for deposits, money order rules by facility, and county jail differences.

If someone you love is locked up in Nebraska, getting money into their account covers commissary - food, hygiene, phone time, writing supplies - and keeps the connection alive. Nebraska's state prison system uses GTL/ViaPath ConnectNetwork for all money transfers to incarcerated individuals. JPay is not used for deposits at Nebraska state prisons - it handles video visitation only. Knowing this distinction prevents money from going to the wrong platform.

Nebraska splits adult custody into two systems: the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) for state sentences, and county jails operated by county sheriffs. NDCS operates nine facilities statewide housing approximately 5,800 incarcerated individuals.

State prisons: NDCS and GTL/ViaPath ConnectNetwork

If your person is in an NDCS state facility, the money transfer provider is GTL/ViaPath. The official NDCS website states: "GTL/ViaPath is the incarcerated individual media system provider for photos, emails, e-cards and money transfers." The deposit portal is ConnectNetwork, accessible at connectnetwork.com.

Online through ConnectNetwork - go to connectnetwork.com, find the Nebraska Department of Corrections, locate your person by their NDCS ID number, and deposit using a credit or debit card. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Fees apply.

By phone - call GTL/ConnectNetwork to speak with an agent. Fees apply.

By kiosk at select facilities - GTL/ViaPath kiosks are available at some NDCS facilities. Check the specific facility for kiosk availability.

By money order - mail a money order or cashier's check directly to the facility where your person is housed. Each NDCS facility has its own mailing address for funds, publications, and packages. The addresses are listed below. Include the incarcerated individual's name and ID number. Do not send cash by mail.

JPay and Nebraska: video visits only

JPay handles video visitation at select NDCS facilities - it does not process trust account deposits. Some older websites and third-party resources still list JPay for Nebraska deposits. That information is outdated. The current NDCS money transfer provider is GTL/ViaPath ConnectNetwork.

Do not deposit to other offenders' accounts

NDCS policy explicitly prohibits sending funds to multiple incarcerated individuals. If your person asks you to deposit money into another person's account, do not do it - this is considered indicative of illegal activity and can result in consequences for both the sender and the incarcerated person.

Mail is separate from deposits

Since an ongoing mail change, all personal mail - letters, pictures, drawings - to NDCS state prison inmates is now digitally delivered via tablet through the "Facility Messages" app. Personal mail goes to a central scanning address (PO Box 247, Phoenix MD 21131) rather than the facility directly. This does not affect money deposits, which go to the facility-specific mailing addresses listed above.

The NDCS ID number is required

The NDCS ID number is assigned to every Nebraska state-sentenced incarcerated person. Required for ConnectNetwork deposits and included on mailed money orders. Find it using the NDCS Incarceration Records search at dcs-inmatesearch.ne.gov.

County jails: vendor varies by county

Nebraska has 93 counties. County jails operate independently from NDCS and set their own deposit vendors.

Douglas County Corrections (Omaha), at 710 South 17th Street, uses ConnectNetwork/GTL for deposits - the same platform as NDCS state prisons. Kiosks are available in the facility lobby (accessible during normal lobby hours) and at the Public Teller Window (three kiosks, two accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week). Kiosks accept cash ($5, $10, $20, $50, $100 bills) and MasterCard or Visa. Deposits can also be made online at ConnectNetwork.com or by calling 888-988-4768. In-person teller window deposits are accepted 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily; cash, money orders, and cashier's checks from a local bank accepted. For questions call 402-444-7400. Note: messaging, phone calls, and video visits at Douglas County use Smart Communications separately - not ConnectNetwork.

Sarpy County Department of Corrections (Papillion), at 1206 Golden Gate Drive, uses JailATM for inmate accounts. For current information call 402-949-3876.

Lancaster County Department of Corrections (Lincoln), at 3801 West O Street, has its own deposit process. Call 402-441-1900 for current instructions.

The only reliable way to find the current vendor for a specific Nebraska county jail is to check that county's website or call the facility directly.

Accounts do not transfer between vendors. When your person moves from a county jail to an NDCS state prison, the county account stays with the county vendor. You set up new deposits through ConnectNetwork using the NDCS ID number.

Federal custody in Nebraska

If your person is in federal Bureau of Prisons custody in Nebraska - the primary federal facility is FCI Englewood in Colorado, or USP Leavenworth in Kansas, both common for Nebraska federal defendants - deposits go through the BOP Trust Fund via Western Union, MoneyGram at retail, or online at bop.gov. You need the eight-digit BOP register number. Do not use ConnectNetwork or NDCS methods for federal inmates.
