INTRO
Nebraska's Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) operates 10 correctional facilities housing approximately 5,500 people across the state - from the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) in Lincoln to the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) in York. The statewide visiting framework requires pre-registration for all visits across all facilities.
Two things define Nebraska's system distinctly. First: all visits must be scheduled at least 7 days in advance - one of the longer mandatory advance windows in the directory, matching Kansas and Wyoming. Second: when an incarcerated person is released on parole, their visitor list is deleted entirely. If they return to NDCS on a parole violation, the entire visitor application process must start over from scratch. This is the only state in the directory that explicitly publishes this parole-release/list-deletion rule.
Nebraska uses commercial bail bonds - bail_banned = false.
VISITOR APPLICATION
All visitors must be on the inmate's approved visitor list before scheduling any visit. The incarcerated person initiates the process by sending out a Visitation Request Form to prospective visitors. The visitor completes and submits the form to the facility for processing.

7-DAY ADVANCE SCHEDULING - ALL FACILITIES
NDCS utilizes a pre-registration process for visitation at all facilities statewide. All visits must be scheduled at least 7 days in advance through the online scheduling form at each facility's page on corrections.nebraska.gov.
LATE ARRIVALS NOT PROCESSED:
Plan to arrive at the facility at least 30 minutes before the scheduled visit to allow for processing. Late arrivals will not be processed - there is no grace period published.
If you need to cancel a visit for any reason, notify the facility as soon as possible.
THE PAROLE LIST DELETION RULE
When an incarcerated person is released on parole, their visitor list is deleted.
If the person returns to NDCS on a parole violation and a visitor was previously on their list, the incarcerated person must initiate the visitation process again by sending out a new Visitation Request Form. The visitor must go through the full application and approval process from the beginning.
This is explicitly published on NDCS's visitation FAQ. No other state in the directory publishes this consequence of release-and-return in its visiting materials. Families of individuals on parole who have ongoing contact through the prison visiting system need to know that if parole is revoked, approval does not carry over.
VISITOR LIST TRANSFER - 6-MONTH WAIT
A visitor who wishes to be removed from one individual's visiting list to be placed on another's must submit a written request to the warden/designee of the facility where the individual resides. The visitor must then wait 6 months before being placed on another individual's visiting list.
Exception: the warden may waive the 6-month waiting period if the individual requesting deletion has not visited for at least 6 months.
VISIT LIMITS AND VISITOR COUNTS
Up to 4 adult visitors and a reasonable number of children are allowed at each visit per inmate. If additional adults are attending the same session, only one registration form is needed - list all visitors' full names and contact information on the single form. Children of any age are permitted with at least one adult present.
At the Work Ethic Camp (WEC): incarcerated persons are limited to two sessions per day and one day per week. Visitors may sign up for the AM and/or PM session on Saturday or Sunday.
BODY SCANNER AT ALL FACILITIES
Nebraska uses body scanners as a security tool at all NDCS facilities to prevent the introduction of contraband such as weapons, narcotics, or unauthorized items. All visitors are subject to search at any time.
DRESS CODE
Nebraska publishes facility-specific visiting procedures at corrections.nebraska.gov/facilities/visitation. General standards consistent with comparable Midwestern systems:
- No clothing resembling inmate uniforms or staff uniforms
- No revealing, form-fitting, or suggestive clothing
- Appropriate undergarments required
- No offensive language or imagery on clothing
- Conservative attire required
No specific statewide color prohibition is published for NDCS.
VIRTUAL VISITING
Virtual visiting is available at NDCS facilities. Visitors must provide their own equipment and internet connection. Upon entry to the virtual visiting room, all visitors ages 16 and older must present proper identification. All minors under age 16 must be accompanied by an approved adult visitor.
