The High Desert Detention Center is a detention center located at 9438 Commerce Way Adelanto, CA which is operated locally by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. San Bernardino County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Adelanto Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The Corrections and Detentions Bureau operates the High Desert Detention Center and work release programs for the County of San Bernardino. There are four main adult jail facilities which house inmates during their court process and inmates who have been sentenced by the court. The Bureau has 7,400 jail beds with an average daily population of 5,000 inmates. The Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies book on average 85,000 people annually. The Bureau provides a variety of rehabilitation programs to help reduce recidivism and allow inmates to transition back into the community.
High Desert was opened in 2006 and is the first Type II facility to be located in the area and provides safe and secure housing for over 700 inmates.
