Shiawassee County Non-Secure Juvenile Detention Center - Parent Information

The Shiawassee County Non Secure Detention Center is operated by the Shiawassee County Circuit Court-Family Division. The Non Secure Detention is a short-term, co-ed residential program which is licensed to provide care for up to 24 youth who are between the ages of 10-17 years. The program is designed to provide an alternative to jail or secure detention placement for delinquent youth who have been determined appropriate for non-secure accountability. These youth who have been found to be in violation of their probation rules, Court Orders or those with delinquent violations pending Court action.

All youth shall be screened prior to their admission based on their age, behavior as well as their physical and emotional needs. We will also consider the past and present legal records, antisocial behavior history as well as an mental or medical diagnoses which have been made. Youth exhibiting severe psychological issues, such as extreme cognitive impairments, psychosis, suicidal or homicidal concerns or youth who have physical conditions, such as pregnancy, physical/health impairments that would endager their own welfare or that f the other resident or staff shall not be permitted.

The Shiawassee County Non Secure Detention is designed to provide a highly structured and closely supervised environment. The Center provides 24-hour awake staff, alarmed/unlocked bedroom doors and a facility-wide video surveillance system.
