Located at 1300 FM 655 in Rosharon, TX, Terrell Unit carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. The Terrell Unit, exclusively for male inmates, has a total capacity of 1,389 within the main unit and an additional 214 in the trusty camp. Situated on a sprawling 14,667-acre property, co-located with Ramsey and Stringfellow units, with an additional 2,200 leased acres, Terrell boasts extensive agricultural operations which include a variety of activities such as cotton gin, cow/calf operation, field crops, and security measures like security horses and pack canines.

In terms of manufacturing and logistics, the unit operates the Southern Region Mechanical Shop. Facility operations focus on unit maintenance, while additional operations include the Southern Region Offender Transportation and the Office of the Inspector General Regional Headquarters.

Healthcare services at Terrell are comprehensive, offering ambulatory medical, dental, and mental health care available round the clock. The medical facility operates with an infirmary housing 12 assisted living beds and provides telemedicine, digital medical services, and audiology. The unit also accommodates a Type I Geriatric Facility and offers services like assisted disability services showers and CPAP accommodating housing, all managed by UTMB.

Educational programs include literacy, CHANGES/Pre-Release, and cognitive intervention, alongside career and technology programs such as electrical trades and welding. Additional support services encompass faith-based dormitories, adult education programs, peer education, reentry planning, and chaplaincy services. Initiatives like Crime Stoppers and the GO KIDS Initiative contribute to inmate development and community engagement.

In terms of community involvement, Terrell Unit provides services to county agencies, fostering a sense of responsibility and contribution among inmates. Volunteer initiatives cover a broad spectrum, including literacy and education, employment and job skills, substance abuse education, life skills development, support groups, and religious or faith-based studies and activities, promoting holistic rehabilitation and personal growth.

Terrell Unit maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.

If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.

Visitation Information

Visitation plays an important role in maintaining the association between inmates and their friends and family as well as strengthening family ties. Visitation Procedure Update (effective December 28, 2023)

Preparing for your visit:

Before you travel to a unit:

  • Confirm the inmate is assigned to the unit you are planning to visit and has visitation privileges.

  • Confirm the unit visitation schedule and verify that visitation has not been canceled. An eligible inmate cannot receive visitors if visitation has been canceled.

  • Do not bring cash (except coins, not more than $35).

  • No cell phones inside the secure perimeter.

  • Spiritual visits must be coordinated through the warden’s office.

Each inmate is only allowed one visit per weekend. To the extent possible, individuals on an inmate’s Visitors List should coordinate with one another and with the inmate to prevent subsequent visitors from being declined when they arrive at the unit.
