The Locked Detention program is meticulously designed to confront the pressing safety challenges posed by delinquent youths in our communities. Serving as a temporary confinement solution, it caters to youths awaiting adjudication, placement, or fulfillment of court-ordered sentences as mandated by a Utah Juvenile Court Judge. Spanning across 11 distinct programs statewide, participants are engaged in a diverse array of structured activities, encompassing schooling, cognitive behavioral skill-building groups, and recreational pursuits. Highlighting the significance of family involvement, the program actively encourages regular phone contact and visitation to nurture support and facilitate rehabilitation.
While the Statewide Detention Admission Guidelines delineate clear criteria for admission based on "Holdable Offenses," certain exceptions are in place. These may encompass charges related to status offenses, instances of failure to appear at court hearings, runaway incidents, experiences of abuse or neglect, and age restrictions.
With specific objectives in mind, including community safeguarding, fostering accountability among youths, and conducting early screening and assessment to address underlying issues, the program is tailored to individual circumstances as determined by the Utah Juvenile Court. Targeting delinquent youths aged 12-17 considered to pose a significant risk to the community, the program seeks to address immediate safety concerns while promoting rehabilitation efforts. Ultimately, it aims to facilitate the successful reintegration of youths into society.
