The Locked Detention program is meticulously designed to tackle the pressing safety challenges presented by delinquent youths in the community. Serving as a short-term confinement option, it caters to youths awaiting adjudication, placement, or fulfillment of sentences as prescribed by a Utah Juvenile Court Judge. Across the state, the program operates through 11 distinct programs, offering participants a diverse array of structured activities, including schooling, cognitive behavioral skill-building groups, and recreational pursuits. Recognizing the pivotal role of family engagement, the program actively encourages regular phone contact and visitation to nurture support and aid in rehabilitation efforts.

While the Statewide Detention Admission Guidelines provide transparent criteria for admission based on "Holdable Offenses," certain exceptions apply. These may encompass charges related to status offenses, instances of missed court appearances, runaway incidents, experiences of abuse or neglect, and age restrictions.

The program is committed to specific objectives, such as upholding community safety, promoting accountability among youths, and conducting early screening and assessment to address underlying issues. Duration of stay is individually tailored as per determinations by the Utah Juvenile Court, with a focus on delinquent youths aged 12-17 identified as posing a significant risk to the community. Through a proactive approach to addressing immediate safety concerns and advancing rehabilitation endeavors, the program endeavors to facilitate the successful reintegration of youths into society.
