The Locked Detention program is meticulously designed to tackle the pressing safety challenges posed by delinquent youths in the community. As a short-term confinement solution, it caters to youths awaiting adjudication, placement, or fulfillment of sentences as directed by a Utah Juvenile Court Judge. Operating across 11 distinct programs statewide, participants engage in structured activities such as schooling, cognitive behavioral skill-building groups, and recreational pursuits. Recognizing the pivotal role of family support in the rehabilitation process, the program encourages regular phone contact and visitation.
While the Statewide Detention Admission Guidelines offer clear admission criteria based on "Holdable Offenses," certain exceptions apply. These may encompass charges related to status offenses, instances of failure to appear at court hearings, runaway incidents, experiences of abuse or neglect, and age restrictions.
With a clear focus on safeguarding the community and promoting accountability among youths, the program is committed to early screening and assessment to address underlying issues. The duration of stay is individually tailored by the Utah Juvenile Court, with a specific target on delinquent youths aged 12-17 considered to pose a significant risk to the community.
