The USP-Lee-Camp is a federal prison located at Lee Co Industrial Pk Hickory Flats Rd in Pennington Gap, VA. This federal minimum security prison is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to hold inmates who have been convicted to and sentenced for a federal crime through the US Department of Justice (DOJ).

The United States Penitentiary, Lee Satellite Prison Camp (USP Lee Camp) is a minimum-security United States federal prison for male inmates in Virginia. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. The facility is adjacent to the main prison, USP Lee which houses maximum-security male offenders.

USP Lee is located in the Lee County Industrial Park an unincorporated area in Lee County, Virginia, in the southwest part of the state. The prison is located off of U.S. Route 58 at the intersection of Route 638, near Pennington Gap and 8 miles east of Jonesville.

Housing: Inmates are housed in barracks-like dormitories.

Health Services: USP Lee Camp inmates receive initial routine health screening shortly after being admitted. Health examinations, dental care, specific preventive health examinations (e.g., cancer screening), routine care, medications, vaccinations, and specialty care. Inmates can request to be seen by a provider for sick call. Appropriate medical care will be provided by institution health services staff. Emergency medical care is available 24 hours a day.

Psychology Services: USP Lee Camp offers screening, assessment, and treatment of mental health problems, individual and group counseling, self-help and supportive services, and referral to Health Services for medical treatment of mental illness. Additional programs and groups are available for anger management and stress management, as well as crisis intervention. The facility also houses the Challenge Program for inmates who are prone to substance abuse, mental illness, and violence.

Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP): USP Lee Camp does not have a Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). It does offer Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), the Non-Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program (NR-DAP) and a Drug Education Class.

Education Services: USP Lee Camp offers GED instruction and an English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) program. Classes are separated into Advanced GED, GED, pre-GED, and Special Learning Needs levels. Parenting classes are also available. High school diplomas and post-secondary programs are available through paid correspondence programs.

Advanced Occupational Education: USP Lee Camp offers Horticulture/Gardening.

Library Services: USP Lee Camp inmates have access to the TRULINCS Electronic Law Library. A leisure library is also available where fiction and nonfiction books, newspapers, and magazines can be checked out by the inmate population.

Commissary: Each inmate is allowed to spend $360 per month. All items count against this limit, including Special Purchase Orders (SPO’s), with the exception of kosher meals, stamps, over-the-counter medications, and copy cards. Commonly purchased items include drink mixes, candy, food, snacks, and clothing.

Recreation Services: Recreation programs at USP Lee Camp include indoor and outdoor activities, individualized arts and crafts programs, and intramural team sports such as softball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball. Physical fitness and weight reduction programs are also available for inmates. Hobby craft programs vary from institution to institution. They typically include activities such as painting, leather, art, and drawing.

Familiarizing yourself with this information and knowing your responsibilities will help you to adjustment to institution life.

Commissary List - In 1930 the Department of Justice authorized and established a Commissary at each Federal institution. The Commissary provides a bank type account for your money & for the procurement of articles not issued regularly as part of the institution administration. Funds deposited by your family, friends, or other sources are stored in your commissary account that we maintain.

Legal Activities - This document outlines the procedures for access to legal reference materials and legal counsel and the opportunities that you will be afforded to prepare legal documents while incarcerated.

Covid Visitation Information

We remind all visitors to carefully review our special visiting procedures during the COVID pandemic, and also remind all visitors to observe applicable state and local COVID travel restrictions in planning your visit to the institution.

Please call 276-546-0150 prior to your visit to get the latest updates, time changes or visitation cancellations.

All visitors will be temperature checked with results annotated at the screening site prior to entrance. All staff working the screening site will be in proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Visitors will be in-processed on a first come first serve basis, adhering to social-distancing requirements. If distancing requirements cannot be met, visitors may be asked to wait outside for systematic in-processing to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Inmates on quarantine or isolation status will not be permitted visits - it will be the visitor's responsibility to check with the institution prior to arrival to ensure the scheduled visit can still take place.

The visiting room is designed to maximize social distancing, with a minimum of six feet between persons. Inmates are permitted two visitors per visit. To ensure equal opportunities, the frequency of visits determines any termination. Appropriate face coverings are mandatory for all inmates and visitors, all visitors wearing a mask will be provided one by the institution, theirs will be secured in the lockers in the lobby. No physical contact, photographs, food, or drink is permitted. A hand hygiene station, including alcohol-based hand sanitizer, is available at all visiting entrances and exits. Orderlies are assigned to each visitation room and will continually sanitize all touch surfaces, restrooms, etc.
