The Vigo Co Jail is a detention center located at 600 Honey Creek Dr Terre Haute, IN which is operated locally by the Vigo County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Vigo County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Terre Haute Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Indiana here.

The Vigo County Jail, with a capacity of 268 prisoners, often exceeds its limit and primarily detains individuals awaiting sentencing. The Vigo County Sheriff's Office oversees inmate medical care, employs trained medical personnel onsite, and manages dietary requirements, including meals for Juvenile Detainees, the Community Corrections Program, and two additional County Jail Facilities. Responsibilities of the Vigo County Sheriff's Office Jail Division extend to inmate safety, transportation to and from courts and other institutions, handling inmate mail, and facilitating commissary services.

Inmates typically have daily access to telephones within their housing units; however, incoming calls are not permitted, and Corrections staff will only handle messages in verified emergencies. Friends and Family calling accounts can be established through Securus, Inc. by calling 800-844-6591.

For correspondence, letters sent to inmates must include the inmate's full name. The jail imposes restrictions on certain items, such as packages, homemade greeting cards, Polaroid photographs, obscene or pornographic materials, personal checks, postage stamps or stamped envelopes, food items, and books or periodicals not directly from the publisher. Mail should be addressed following the specified format.
