The Washington Co Jail is a detention center located at 399 Broadway Ft. Edward, NY which is operated locally by the Washington County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Washington County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Ft. Edward Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement.   • 10:00 am – 11:00 am
  • 12:30 am – 1:30 pm
  • 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Note: Inmates are allowed 2, 1-hour visits per week.

Visit Rules

  • Visitors must sign in at the Jail Lobby at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the visit.
  • No visitors will be permitted to enter the visitation room after the start of the scheduled visitation time.
  • Inmates are allowed 2 visitors at a time in the visitation room (no switches may be made).
  • Infants and Toddlers are allowed to sit on a visitor's lap and do not count as a 2nd person.
  • Any visitors under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and must also have a birth certificate.
  • If a minor is accompanied by a legal guardian that is not a parent they must have proof of guardianship.
  • Visits are granted on a 1st come 1st served basis.
  • Upon admittance into the correctional facility all inmates are entitled to a 10-minute non-contact visit within their 1st 24 hours in the facility.
  • Visitation rules are posted in the jail lobby, if any of those rules are violated the visit will be ended.
  • Passing of any contraband ( any unauthorized item) is a violation of New York Penal Law 205.20, You will be arrested.
  • Proper attire is required, no jackets or hooded sweatshirts, No low cut or see-through clothing, No tank tops or sleeveless shirts.
