The Wayne Brown Correctional Facility serves as a low/medium-security city detention center located at 950 Maidu Ave in Nevada City, CA. Operated locally by the police and sheriff's departments, it houses inmates and detainees awaiting trial or sentencing. Most sentenced inmates have terms of less than two years. The facility also accepts inmates from surrounding towns and occasionally from the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees are regularly admitted to the jail, with some being released on bail or placed under pretrial services caseloads. Others may be supervised by probation agencies or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who remain in custody await their court appearances at the facility, receiving accommodations such as bedding and meals.

Inmates may receive one (1) thirty (30) minute supervised visit each visiting day. All visits are non-contact. Inmates may receive up to four (4) visitors at one time, one of which must be an adult. The visitation lobby is open Tuesday through Friday. Morning visits are held from 9:00 am to 11:15 am. Afternoon visitation is from 12:30 pm until 4:15 pm. Evening visitation is from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

All visitors must be 18 years of age or older. Appropriate attire is required. No cell phones or cameras are permitted in the visitation rooms. Visitors must provide current government issued ID at the time of check in. There are no exceptions to this rule. NO ID, NO VISIT. Children under the age of eighteen (18) must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

New visitors must complete a visiting slip. This slip can be downloaded and filled out in advance. Personal visitors can complete the Public Visitor’s Request form. Personal visits are subject to being recorded and/or monitored.
