If someone you love is locked up in Wisconsin, getting money into their account covers commissary - food, hygiene, phone time, writing supplies - and keeps the connection alive. Wisconsin's Department of Corrections (WDOC) uses Access Corrections as the official deposit vendor for all state adult institutions. One firm rule: do not send funds directly to the correctional facility. All deposits go through Access Corrections.
Wisconsin splits adult corrections between WDOC for state sentences, and county jails and houses of correction operated by county governments. WDOC operates 36 adult correctional facilities. Wisconsin has 72 counties, each with its own jail or house of correction. Milwaukee County is Wisconsin's largest county jail system, operating two facilities and using the same Access Corrections platform as the state.
State prisons: WDOC and Access Corrections
If your person is in a WDOC state facility, all trust fund deposits go through Access Corrections. Access Corrections is the only vendor designated to accept funds on behalf of the Division of Adult Institutions. Do not mail money orders to the prison or to any WDOC facility - they will not be processed there.
You need the inmate's DOC number for all deposit methods. Find it using the WDOC Offender Search at doc.wi.gov.
The daily deposit limit is $2,900 across all Access Corrections channels.
Three deposit methods
By mail - no service fee. Download the Wisconsin DOC Money Order/Check Deposit Slip from the WDOC Money, Mail & Property page at doc.wi.gov, or pick one up at any facility. Make the money order, personal check, or cashier's check payable to ACCESS SECURE DEPOSITS. Write the inmate's DOC number on both the check/money order and the deposit slip. Use only blue or black ink, and write legibly. Do not include photos or letters - they will be discarded. Mail the completed deposit slip and payment to:

WDOC facilities
WDOC operates 36 adult correctional institutions and centers statewide. The full facility list with legal mail and package mailing addresses is at doc.wi.gov/Pages/OffenderInformation/AdultInstitutions/MoneyMailProperty.aspx.
A note on tablets and messaging
Wisconsin DOC began transitioning facilities to ICS tablets in early 2024. Family and friends wanting to send messages or photos to a resident with an ICS tablet need to create a GTL/GettingOut account at GettingOut.com. Funds for messaging and photos are managed through that platform. Check current tablet rollout status at the WDOC Adult Facilities page.
Milwaukee County: same vendor, separate system
Milwaukee County operates two adult jail facilities - the Criminal Justice Facility (949 N. 9th St, Milwaukee) and the Community Reintegration Center (8885 S. 68th St, Franklin). Both use Access Corrections for deposits, but Milwaukee County's daily deposit limit is $300 - much lower than the state's $2,900 limit.
Four ways to deposit for Milwaukee County:
Online - accesscorrections.com; Visa or Mastercard; 24/7.
By phone - call (866) 345-1884; Visa or Mastercard; 24/7.
Lobby kiosk - kiosks at both Milwaukee County facilities are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week:
Criminal Justice Facility, 949 N. 9th Street, Milwaukee (lobby and G-Level)
Community Reintegration Center, 8885 S. 68th Street, Franklin (lobby)
Over 800 additional kiosk locations available through Access Corrections.
Walk-in retail - register at CashPayToday.com, get a barcode, and make a cash deposit at Dollar General, Family Dollar, CVS, 7-Eleven, or Walgreens.
County jails: vendor varies across 72 counties
Wisconsin has 72 counties, each with its own jail or house of correction. Most Wisconsin county jails use Access Corrections or JailATM, but vendors vary by county. The only reliable way to find the current deposit vendor for a specific Wisconsin county jail is to check that county's sheriff website or call the facility directly.
Accounts do not transfer between systems. When your person moves from a county jail to a WDOC state prison, the county account stays with the county vendor. Set up new deposits through Access Corrections using the WDOC DOC number.
Federal custody in Wisconsin
Federal Bureau of Prisons facilities in Wisconsin include FCI Oxford and FCI Otisville (New York, used for some WI federal defendants). Federal deposits go through the BOP Trust Fund via Western Union, MoneyGram at retail, or online at bop.gov. You need the eight-digit BOP register number. Do not use WDOC or county methods for federal inmates.
What to know before you send anything
Do not send money to the prison. All WDOC deposits go to Access Corrections - mail to Secure Deposits - Wisconsin DOC, P.O. Box 12486, St. Louis MO 63132 with the WDOC deposit slip. Or deposit online, by phone, or at CashPayToday locations.
The mail option has no service fee. Online and phone carry fees. Walk-in cash requires CashPayToday registration.
The deposit slip is required for all mailed money orders. Download it from doc.wi.gov or get one at the facility. No photos or letters in the same envelope - they will be discarded.
Milwaukee County uses the same Access Corrections platform but has a $300 daily limit vs. the state's $2,900.
