At WV DOC - Slayton Work Camp's state corrections facility, well-behaved inmates can join a work release program, getting regular jobs in the public sector during the day. Depending on the rules, they might work weekdays and go home at night, serving their sentences only on weekends. Some stay in halfway houses or at home when they're not working. As they get closer to getting out, they might switch to reintegration programs and could even get full-time jobs when they are released.

This program has perks like better chances of finding a job after getting out, finding work faster, making more money afterward, and being less likely to go back to jail. Slayton WC wants to help inmates succeed in getting back into society.

Established in July 2007, the Slayton Work Camp operates as an integral part of the Mount Olive Correctional Complex. With a capacity for 48 residents, this minimum-security unit functions independently within the Mount Olive compound. It is administered directly by the facility and operates autonomously outside the secure perimeter.

Residents undergo a rigorous evaluation process to ensure suitability for placement. Typically, they have appropriate security classifications, are non-violent offenders, and are assessed as low-risk to the community. This careful selection process maintains a safe environment while facilitating successful reintegration into society. The camp provides access to resources while offering a tailored environment. Residents benefit from vocational training, educational programs, and reentry preparation services.

The Slayton Work Camp is vital to Mount Olive's rehabilitation efforts, providing a supportive environment for residents' personal and professional growth. Emphasizing accountability, skill-building, and community engagement, the camp empowers individuals to lead fulfilling lives upon release.
