How to Visit

  1. You must be listed on an inmate's approved visitor list before you can schedule a visit.
  2. All visits with inmates are by appointment only on a first come-first served basis. NO WALK-INS WILL BE ALLOWED. Anyone requesting a visit with an inmate must call (419) 213-4863 to sign up for the visit no sooner than six (6) days and no later than one (1) day before the visit to schedule it. (Since there are no visits on Sunday and Monday, if you want to visit on Tuesday you have to sign up for the visit by Saturday.) If you get voicemail, you must leave your name, name of inmate, proper spelling of both names, your date of birth, Social Security number, a phone number where you can be reached, and the time and day you want to visit. The visitation counselor will call you to confirm your visit within twenty-four (24) hours, except Sunday and Monday. If the visitor speaks to a live person on the phone, no confirmation call will be made.
  3. A complete warrant check will be done on each visitor. Visitors with active warrants will not be allowed to visit.
  4. You must arrive in the front lobby of the Corrections Center ten minutes before your scheduled visit and show photo identification before being allowed to visit.

Visiting Rules - Jail staff will end your visit and may deny you future visits if you violate any of these visitor rules:

  1. Check-in with visitation counselor and show an official, acceptable picture ID. Adults visiting with a child must present a birth certificate or proper photo identification for the child.
  2. Abide by dress standards and requirements.
  3. Behave in a manner that is not a threat to the safety, security, and order of the Corrections Center.
  4. Do not leave children unattended in the lobby or on the front steps at any time. Do not leave your child(ren) alone or with a stranger or anyone younger than eighteen years of age. Jail staff will not care for your child(ren). Children aged 12 or younger must be supervised at all times. They are not to be left in a vehicle without adult supervision. Disobedient children and their parent/guardian will be asked to leave.
  5. Anyone who is under the visible influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to visit.
  6. Follow all directions of visitation officers and jail staff at all times.
  7. Do not tamper with, damage, mark, or soil the visitation cameras, monitors, or handsets or any jail property. Violators of this rule may be subject to arrest and/or prosecution.
  8. Do not attempt to bring contraband into the building or visiting area. If you do, you are subject to arrest and/or prosecution. (Contraband is anything jail staff has not authorized or issued, such as weapons, drugs, tobacco, lighters, food, papers, sharp objects.)
  9. A visitor may only visit with one inmate at a time. No cross visiting is allowed.
  10. No smoking, food, or beverages are allowed in the visitation area.

Dress Standards for Visitors - Because the jail houses a wide variety of personalities, jail staff will deny a visit if sexually suggestive or inappropriate clothing is worn. Clothing may be considered sexually suggestive if it exposes an undue amount of skin on the back, chest, thighs, shoulders, or midsection. This includes short shorts, skirts, and dresses; dresses or skirts with high slits, tank tops, tube tops, halter tops, or other clothing with plunging or low-cut necklines. Tight-fitting or see-through clothing or sheer and loose-weave fabrics may be considered sexually suggestive. The absence of undergarments may be considered sexually suggestive.

Shoes must be worn at all times. No clothing or insignias with language, symbols, or markings that indicate a criminal gang may be worn. No clothing that contains derogatory comments or slurs directed at a class of people or that may otherwise disrupt jail order or place a person's safety at risk may be worn.

Visitation Rules

County - Rules by type

The Lucas County OH Corrections Center, located in Toledo, OH, plays a crucial role in facilitating successful offender reintegration into the community, a cornerstone of effective crime control strategies. With a focus on rehabilitation and community engagement, the center aims to support individuals as they transition from incarceration back into society. However, this process is governed by a multitude of rules and regulations that visitors must adhere to, ensuring the safety and security of all involved parties.

Visitors to the prison must navigate a complex set of guidelines regarding identification, conduct, and the items they can bring during visits. These rules are in place to maintain order within the facility and to protect both visitors and inmates. For example, visitors are required to present proper forms of identification upon arrival, such as a driver's license or government-issued ID card. This helps to verify their identity and ensure that they are authorized to visit the inmate.

Furthermore, visitors must adhere to strict rules regarding their conduct while inside the facility. Disruptive behavior, the use of loud or obscene language, or engaging in any form of sexual behavior can result in the termination of the visit and may lead to further consequences. Additionally, visitors are prohibited from bringing certain items into the visiting room, including cell phones, cameras, and weapons. These restrictions help to maintain the safety and security of the facility and prevent any unauthorized items from entering the prison.

In addition to these general rules, there are specific guidelines that visitors must follow depending on their circumstances. For example, visitors with children must ensure that they are supervised at all times and that they do not engage in any inappropriate behavior while inside the facility. Likewise, visitors who require medication during their visit must inform the visiting room officer upon arrival and follow the appropriate procedures to ensure that their medication is properly stored and administered.

Another important aspect of visiting a prison is understanding the limitations and restrictions that may apply to certain individuals. For example, individuals who have previously been incarcerated, are currently under probation or parole supervision, or are victims of the inmate are typically not permitted to visit. Likewise, individuals who have had their visiting privileges suspended or who have an active protection from abuse (PFA) order against them are also prohibited from visiting the inmate.

Despite these restrictions, there are procedures in place for individuals who wish to visit an inmate but are not permitted under normal circumstances. Inmates can initiate a request to have a prohibited visitor added to their visiting list, and a recommendation from the inmate's unit team may allow the visitor to be approved by the facility manager or designee. However, reinstatement of visiting privileges is not guaranteed, and individuals whose visiting privileges have been suspended must write to the appropriate facility manager seeking reinstatement.

Upon arrival at the prison, visitors are subject to a thorough screening process to ensure that they do not bring any contraband into the facility. This includes a search of their person, their belongings, and their vehicle. Visitors must also pass through a metal detector and may be subject to additional screening measures, such as drug screenings conducted by dogs or special devices. Failure to pass these screenings can result in the denial of the visit and may lead to further consequences.

Once inside the visiting room, visitors must continue to adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the prison. This includes refraining from conversing with other inmates or their guests, as well as following any specific instructions given by the visiting room officers. Visitors are also responsible for keeping control of their children and ensuring that they do not engage in any disruptive behavior.

In addition to these general guidelines, there are specific rules that visitors must follow depending on their circumstances. For example, visitors with infants must adhere to guidelines regarding the types and amounts of baby items they can bring into the visiting room. Likewise, visitors who require medication during their visit must inform the visiting room officer upon arrival and follow the appropriate procedures to ensure that their medication is properly stored and administered.

Overall, visiting a prison requires careful adherence to a complex set of rules and regulations designed to maintain order and security within the facility. By understanding and following these guidelines, visitors can help to ensure a safe and positive experience for themselves, the inmates, and the staff.
