Can You Mail a Printed Calendar to an Inmate?

Can my family mail printed calendar sheets as we planned visitation days ahead of time and I can see their daily schedules ? Basically are calendars aloud?

Generally no. Printed calendars are not typically on the approved incoming mail list at most correctional facilities and will usually get rejected at the mailroom before reaching your loved one.

The reasoning behind it varies by facility but common concerns include the size of the paper, the format, and anything printed that goes beyond standard letter correspondence. Some facilities flag printed materials that look like they were produced at home rather than coming from an approved publisher or vendor. Others have blanket restrictions on anything other than standard sized letters and photos.

That said, inmates are nothing if not resourceful and most people serving any length of time have figured out their own system for tracking dates and planning. Hand-drawn calendars made from blank paper, repurposed pages from approved publications, or simple grids sketched into notebooks are all common workarounds that circulate through every facility. Your loved one has almost certainly already worked something out.

If coordinating visitation days is the goal, the more reliable approach is to communicate those dates through letters or phone calls rather than sending a physical calendar. Write out the dates you are planning to visit and he can incorporate them into whatever tracking system he already has in place. That achieves the same coordination without risking a mailroom rejection.

If you are unsure about a specific facility's policy, calling ahead and asking the mailroom directly whether printed calendar pages are permitted is always the cleanest way to get a definitive answer before wasting a trip to the post office.
