Texas does not have a conjugal visit program. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice eliminated conjugal visits decades ago and has not reinstated them. Regardless of the sentence length or the nature of the charges, conjugal visits are not available at any Texas state prison.
Texas is among the majority of states that no longer offer this type of visitation. As of 2026, only a small handful of states, including California, New York, Washington, and Connecticut, maintain any form of extended family or conjugal visit program, and Texas is not among them.
What is available in Texas is regular contact visitation during scheduled visiting hours, which allows physical contact within the rules of the facility, including brief hugs. Maintaining that regular in-person connection through visitation is the most meaningful way to stay physically present in your husband's life, given the constraints of a long sentence.
If you have questions about what specific accommodations or programs might be available for long-term family connection at your husband's facility, calling the chaplain there is a reasonable starting point. Chaplains are often more accessible than administrative staff and can sometimes guide what options exist for families navigating lengthy sentences.
