How can I get in touch with an inmate through InmateAid do I have to write him to give him the InmateAid number???

Yes, you do need to get the number to your inmate, and the most reliable way is by writing to them.

Facilities do not pass along phone numbers or messages, so the inmate will not know about your new number unless you tell them directly.

Here are your options:

1. Send a letter (best method)

  • Use the InmateAid letter service or regular mail
  • Clearly write the new number and tell them to add it to their call list

2. Tell them during a call (if you already have contact)

  • If they can already call you, you can give them the new number over the phone

3. Use a coupon option (if available)

  • Sometimes a coupon is offered to help you send that first letter at no cost

Important steps after they receive it:

  • They must add the number to their approved phone list
  • Once approved, they can start calling it

Until they have that number, they will not be able to use the service.

So yes, sending a letter is usually the first step to getting everything working.
