Your phone line is active and ready to receive calls as soon as you receive the confirmation email with the number. That email goes out when the account is set up, so if you got it, the line is live.
The quickest way to verify everything is working on your end is to call the InmateAid number from a different phone and confirm that it rings through to the forwarding number you provided when you signed up. If it rings correctly, the line is functioning as it should.
If the line checks out but you still have not heard from your wife after a week, the issue is most likely on the facility end. She may not yet have your new number, the facility may have restrictions on when calls can be made, or she may be going through an intake or classification period that limits phone access temporarily. The best thing you can do is get the number to her through a letter or have someone let her know through another channel.
If the line does not ring through when you test it, contact InmateAid support and they will sort it out quickly.
